Changes

I figured out how to "collapse" long posts so readers don't have to keep scrolling way down the main page of my blog to get to read the comments. However, I don't know how to not display the "if this doesn't seem like the end of the post, there may be more ... click" link-thing at the end of each post. What I mean is, if I have a small post, and I don't want to collapse it, it still puts that link-thing there. So, I am going to try to put "the End" at the end of every new post from now on. Who knows? Maybe I will not do any more long posts.

I read yesterday in a blogger help page that they have cleared up some of the problems with "comment spam" and they believe they have eliminated 90% of it. Therefore, because "word verification" annoys me, I am turning it off to see if this is true about the 90% elimination. If you see it turned back on, that means I got spammed. Maybe you all would like to try turning it off for awhile, if you think it annoys your readers (like me).

On a darker note, ;~) yesterday in a comment on Purgatorio, I felt like a guy blogger implied that I was a "dog" ... so I am going to change my profile picture soon. Maybe I will choose the letter "R" or put a picture of a "rose." (I haven't been called a dog since the fourth grade!) Maybe I misunderstood. PLEASE, go to Purgatorio and see this comment by scrolling way down, past the Messianic Jewish stuff, past the album covers, to "Christmas Bonus - You Supply the Caption" and see the manger scene with the dogs. Then, open the comments and scroll to the last 6 or 7 commets to see what I am referring to. Tell me if I am misunderstanding this. Defend me! I feel so ugly!!

Finally, look for one or two more posts related to TULIP. (Believe it or not, I wasn't done yet, but I didn't have the stomach to continue just now. I will take a week or two break ... or maybe shorter or longer. Thanks for reading!

UPDATE: The guy blogger was not trying to call me a dog on Purgatorio. He didn't even notice my name. He emailed me an apology. That was a close one. ;~)

The END

  • More on Tulip? How do you manage to keep going?

Shorter posts? I prefer the shorter posts format. I tend to write in few words. It also means I can post very frequently. The only problem is, I think it reduces my chances of gettting picked up by the search engine (I could be wrong about that- you seem to know the system better than I do, Rose~).

  • I think it's Bat power...

I have been playing with my blog too. I haven't figure out how to do that yet.

    Bless you

  • Matthew,
TULIP - two really easy posts as a way of "wrapping up."

I like shorter posts to read. With some subjects though, it doesn't seem like you do it justice if you don't delve deep.

    Forgiven,
I have noticed your changes. There is so much to learn about the blog system.

Did neither of you go to see the comment I am referring to?

    By Blogger Rose~, at 12/10/2005 4:03 PM

  • Rose,

I saw it and was bugged. Should we send and email bomb or pray for him?

By Blogger Shawn, at 12/10/2005 4:32 PM

  • This is what I spoke to in my latest post. Pray hard Shawn. Oh help us Father to know you. Open our eyes please oh living God.

By Blogger Bhedr, at 12/10/2005 4:39 PM

  • Yes rose it was weird, but pray for those who make fun of you

    Brian,

Yes this is what I do with my mother as well, but haven't prayed as much for her as 10 years ago when she walked away.

I was mostly bringing that up to help us remember what to do when people make fun of us is to pray for them when we

It's probably not good to mix humor with the true seriousness of what Rose feels right now after someone hurts you, but was hoping to help her see that we should pray.

  • Shawn,
Methinks there is another explanation besides the one that is on the surface. IOW, I don't think, now after pondering it, that he was directing that as a cut to me or anyone. I just wondered what my readers thought. I also wanted them to defend me on that post!

A little reassurance about my ugliness factor wouldn't hurt either.

    Bhedr,
This is what I spoke to in my latest post.

What is what you spoke to? I want to read your post but what is what you spoke to?
... his apparent meanness ... or my vanity/sensitivity ... or what?

  • Rose,
Like we talked before I was hoping Matt P was making a joke on the Christmas song "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming". But my wife saw it and her first reaction was to think it was a slam. If you'd like I'll delete the comment. But then everyone would wonder what you're refering to. If it was an insult than that was NOT in the least accurate or nice. I commented after you hopefully he will respond.

On another note, your hubby is contributing some helpful stuff on the Messianic Jew post.

  • Thanks, Marc, don't remove the comment! I think you're right about the song. I just wanted to see what my readers would think. Also - it gives me an excuse to play around with my profile pic.

    Thanks for the reassurance!

  • Hi Rose,

Frankly, I like your present picture better than any of your suggested ones. I also think Shawn's new picture is pretty cool -- nice gimmick!

I've never used word verification on POLD and I've never had much problems with spam; I think new blogs are the ones that pick up most of it. But word verification doesn't annoy me, and it never has.

I checked out Pergatorio, looks like the comment in question has now been deleted (?) But based on the context I'm guessing it was a failed attempt at humor (and now the guy feels like a jerk.)

Finally, I know what you mean about being burned out on TULIP. It's a very interesting topic, but when you eat such a fine meal you need some time to digest it all (burp!) Enjoy your break!

  • Loren,
Thanks for your encouragement. The guy didn't mean anything by it, he emailed me an apology. I'm too sensitive, I think. It's a woman thing.

  • I did read the comment. I do not know why he said that. Must be one of these wild, Calvinist student types who spend too mcuh time on the internet.

But then I am a rather tame, Dispensationalist student type who spends too much time on the internet.

  • Bluecollar,
Not to sound over-confident... I know I am not a "dog." I hope I didn't give the wrong impression that I was suddenly, seriously uncomfortable with my physical appearance. Long ago, I accepted myself ... when I realized that God created me. That made all the difference. I guess I was sort of trying to stir things up a little. I am so bad. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.

    Matthew,
I chose the "pale Rose" because you said it was "gothic." I have never tried "gothic"!!! I am going to change it again, not to worry. It is kind of fun to play around with.
